What is the right age to start abacus classes?
UCMAS abacus classes are designed for children aged 4 to 13 years. This is the ideal window for brain development training, when children absorb new skills fastest. Younger children start with foundation levels, while older children follow an accelerated track, so it's never too late within this range to begin.
How does abacus training improve concentration and memory?
Abacus training teaches children to visualize a virtual abacus and move its beads mentally while calculating. This continuous exercise of visualization, working memory, and focus strengthens the brain the way physical exercise strengthens muscles, and the improved attention span carries over to every school subject, not just maths.
How many levels are there and how long is the full course?
The UCMAS curriculum is organized into four progressive modules: Foundation (12 months), Refine (10 months), Ascend (12 months), and Masters (4 months). It is a journey of a little over three years through the Advance Level, with a grading assessment and certificate at the end of every level. Children who wish to go further can continue to the optional Grand Levels 1 and 2.
How often are classes held?
Children attend two hours of classes per week at their nearest centre in Hyderabad or Telangana. The schedule is deliberately light so it complements school studies rather than competing with them, and each level ends with a graded assessment and certificate so parents can track progress.
Will abacus classes affect my child's school studies?
No. UCMAS is designed to support school learning, not add pressure. With just a couple of hours of classes each week, the time commitment is small, while the gains in concentration, memory, and calculation speed help children across mathematics, science, and languages.
